JACKSON — What appeared to be skeletal human remains were discovered Sunday afternoon inside an abandoned building after firefighters extinguished a small fire, according to Capitol Police.
Capitol Police said officers were called to assist the Jackson Fire Department at approximately 3:43 p.m. at a building on Gallatin Street, where firefighters had just put out a small fire.
While surveying the scene, firefighters found what appeared to be skeletal remains inside the structure.
Capitol Police has launched a death investigation into the discovery. Authorities have not released any information about the identity of the remains or the circumstances surrounding the death.
Officials said no additional information is being released at this time as the investigation continues.
