Dog found dumped near Flowood YMCA with rusted chain deeply embedded in neck

RANKIN COUNTY — The Rankin County Animal Shelter is caring for an injured dog that was brought in by a Good Samaritan after she was found with a rusted chain embedded around her neck.

The shelter said the dog, named Miracle, was brought in June 25 by a woman who had been trying to catch her after seeing her near the YMCA. Debra said it took the woman a few tries but she finally gained the dog’s trust and was able to catch her and bring her in.

The dog was still dragging a heavy rusted chain when she arrived.

Shelter Director Debra Murphy said the photos of the chain embedded were extremely graphic and as soon as she received the dog, she rushed her to the vet.

Debra said Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey played a role in helping get Miracle the care she needed, and she was taken to Home Town Vet for treatment.

Miracle is doing much better considering her circumstances, and remains under veterinary care and is expected to have her stitches removed soon.

Miracle was not microchipped. Anyone who knows the owner is asked to contact the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department at 601-825-1480 or the Rankin County Animal Shelter at 601-824-2024.

The shelter said Miracle will be spayed, vaccinated and placed for adoption once her wounds heal.

Debra said they are looking for someone willing to foster this sweet girl.
