GULFPORT – A Gulfport man has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault after a shooting that left one person dead and two others critically injured.
The Gulfport Police Department said officers responded around 8:45 p.m. June 29 to the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue for a reported shooting.
When officers arrived, they found one person dead and two others suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured victims were taken to a local hospital, where police said they remain in critical condition.
Through the investigation, detectives determined the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over narcotics involving 34-year-old John Gaddis III and one of the victims, according to police.
The identity of the person who died is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Harrison County Coroner’s Office.
Police said Gaddis, of Gulfport, was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident. He was charged June 30 with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Gaddis was processed and taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $2 million bond.
