Man charged with murder, attempted murder in Simpson County shooting

Authorities have charged a Simpson County man with first-degree murder and attempted murder after deputies found his brother fatally shot Saturday morning at a residence on Hattie Bell Tatum Road.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 10:36 a.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at 109 Hattie Bell Tatum Road. When they arrived, they found Mainard Winn dead from a gunshot wound.

Investigators said Alywin Darrell Durr remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities determined that Winn and Durr were brothers who lived on the same property.

Durr is being held at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center and is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Simpson County Justice Court on Monday. He is expected to face formal charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

The Sheriff’s Office said investigators continue interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence as the investigation remains ongoing.

“Our thoughts are with the families affected by this tragedy, and we remain dedicated to ensuring justice and maintaining the safety of our community,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
