YAZOO COUNTY – The Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents in the Benton area to remain vigilant as deputies continue searching for suspects connected to a stolen vehicle investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, a stolen black four-door sedan was detected by the department’s Flock camera system traveling westbound on Highway 16 around 10:56 p.m. June 18.
The vehicle was later found abandoned and unoccupied around 11:50 p.m. on Highway 16 near Sunny Lane Road.
Authorities said about four to five male subjects were then seen running eastbound on Highway 16 near Mollette Road. The individuals ran into a nearby driveway and out of sight.
Responding deputies located three suspects within minutes.
The sheriff’s office said two AR-style pistols were recovered, and one of the firearms was confirmed stolen.
Authorities believe one or two additional male subjects have not yet been located. Officials said they do not currently have identifying information for those individuals, other than that they were wearing dark-colored clothing.
Residents in the Benton area are asked to report suspicious people or activity immediately.
