JACKSON — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a double homicide and aggravated assault that occurred June 12 in south Jackson, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Police said officers and investigators responded around 6:30 p.m. to the 400 block of Beasley Road, where 24-year-old Meshard Johnson and 22-year-old Gary Wilson were found dead at the scene. A third person suffered injuries in the incident.
Following an investigation by the department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit, detectives obtained warrants for two suspects: Justin Ross and 27-year-old James Nichols Avery.
Ross was arrested earlier and charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault. He made an initial appearance in Jackson Municipal Court on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Avery on Jackson Police Department warrants charging him with two counts of capital murder and aggravated assault.
Avery is scheduled to make his initial appearance in municipal court Thursday morning.
