JACKSON — An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Jackson trail ride event that left one person dead and five others injured earlier this month.
The Jackson Police Department announced Monday that Amarien Carmichael, 18, has been charged with one count of murder and five counts of aggravated assault in the case.
Police said officers responded at approximately 12:38 a.m. June 6 to a shooting in the 2900 block of Forrest Avenue, where a trail ride event was being held.
The shooting resulted in the death of 18-year-old Joidan Worthy and injuries to five additional victims.
Following what police described as an extensive investigation by detectives with the department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit, Carmichael was arrested June 15.
Authorities said Carmichael was booked into city holding and is expected to make an initial appearance in Jackson Municipal Court.
The investigation remains ongoing.
