SCOOBA – When a tour bus broke down in Kemper County during extreme heat, local residents stepped up to help.
According to the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office, the bus broke down on Highway 16 near Lover’s Lane in Scooba.
With temperatures dangerously high, Sheriff James R. Moore said it was important to get the passengers transported to Scooba, where they could get water and use restroom facilities.
Moore reached out to the community for transportation assistance, and residents quickly answered the call.
The sheriff’s office said people from Kemper County, as well as surrounding areas, offered to help get the passengers safely transported.
“We are a small county with BIG HEARTS,” Moore said in a post about the response.
The sheriff thanked everyone who stepped in and helped, saying the moment showed what can happen when a community comes together in unity, kindness and service.
