DIAMONDHEAD — More than 22 years after Floyd Price disappeared from his Diamondhead condominium, his family is still searching for answers.
Price was 80 years old when he was last seen around 8 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2004. His brother had dropped him off at his condominium in the 100 block of Lanai Village in Diamondhead.
The next day, Price failed to respond to messages and missed a doctor’s appointment he was scheduled to attend with his brother. Concerned, his brothers went to check on him.
They found both of Price’s vehicles parked in the driveway, but he was nowhere to be found. According to investigators, nothing inside the home appeared to be disturbed except for his unmade bed, something family members said was highly unusual because Price was known to be meticulous and always made his bed.
Price had recently relocated to the Mississippi Gulf Coast following the death of his wife. Investigators said his brothers were the only people he knew well in the area, leading them to believe he had not voluntarily left with someone he knew.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department processed the condominium for evidence. Investigators found a small trace of blood inside the residence, although authorities have never determined whether it was connected to Price’s disappearance.
The investigation also revealed that on the day he disappeared, Price wrote two checks totaling $3,000. Authorities have not determined the relationship between Price and the men who received the checks.
Later that year, another elderly Hancock County man, Frank Roberts, disappeared after leaving home to meet someone who had promised to repay a loan. Roberts was found dead four days later. During that investigation, authorities identified John Paul Necaise after Roberts’ credit card was used following his disappearance.
Investigators have identified Necaise as the same man suspected in Price’s disappearance. Necaise was later convicted of capital murder in Roberts’ death but died after attempting suicide while being held at the courthouse before Price’s disappearance could be resolved.
Despite years of investigation, Floyd Price’s body has never been found, and his disappearance remains unsolved.
At the time he vanished, Price was described as a white man with gray hair and blue eyes. He stood 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighed about 155 pounds and had an artificial knee.
