OCEAN SPRINGS — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting involving the Ocean Springs Police Department near a hotel on Bienville Boulevard.
According to a news release, officers responded to a disturbance call in the area and encountered a person armed with a weapon.
Authorities said officers instructed the individual to drop the weapon, but the person allegedly advanced toward officers in a threatening manner. Officers then fired their weapons, striking the subject.
The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
No law enforcement officers suffered serious physical injuries in the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation said agents are assessing the circumstances surrounding the shooting and gathering evidence. Upon completion of the investigation, findings will be turned over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review.
