MONROE COUNTY – Two men are facing charges following an alleged assault late Friday night on a levee road near the Thad Cochran Lock and Dam Spillway west of Amory, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called by E-911 shortly after 10 p.m. May 30 to a report of a physical altercation in the area. When they arrived, they found a white male lying on the ground and in need of medical attention.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to North Mississippi Medical Center in Amory before he was later transferred to a trauma center in Tupelo for further treatment.
Investigators said Austin Boyd Funderburk, 28, was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant and later charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
A second suspect, Jason Jonathan Armstrong, 50, was arrested later and charged with conspiracy to commit assault, according to investigators.
Bond was set at $7,500 for Funderburk and $10,000 for Armstrong in Monroe County Justice Court.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
