MADISON – The Madison Fire Department is congratulating Philip Tolstad on his promotion to deputy fire chief.
Tolstad began his career with the Madison Fire Department in 2004 and has risen through the ranks, serving as lieutenant and battalion chief before his recent promotion.
The department described Tolstad as professional, hardworking, brave and committed to his team. Officials also noted his leadership style, saying he is known for the attitude of not asking his firefighters to do anything he would not do himself.
When asked about the most rewarding part of his job, Tolstad said it is “when all the training and effort pays off, and we are able to help someone in the toughest time of their lives.”
The Madison Fire Department said the promotion is well deserved.
