JACKSON, Miss. — Four victims were recovered during a human trafficking enforcement operation in Vicksburg last week, according to Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch.
The operation, known as Operation Liberty Shield, was conducted May 28 by the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Task Force in partnership with local and state law enforcement agencies.
Attorney General Fitch announced Monday that the operation included investigators and prosecutors from her office working alongside the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control, the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.
The Center for Violence Prevention assisted during the operation by providing services and treatment to the four victims who were recovered.
Fitch said the operation is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen partnerships among law enforcement agencies and improve responses to human trafficking across Mississippi.
“My office is committed to building a network of law enforcement trained in the best techniques for taking down human trafficking operations and helping victims start the road to recovery,” Fitch said.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, 648 federal, state and local law enforcement officers have now received human trafficking training through the program.
Operation Liberty Shield was the 64th multi-jurisdictional operation led by the Attorney General’s human trafficking unit. Since the task force was established, officials say operations have resulted in the recovery of 391 victims and 204 arrests, along with numerous investigative leads related to trafficking activity.
