GEORGE COUNTY – Two people have been arrested following multiple theft investigations and vehicle pursuits involving stolen property in George County and Mobile County, Alabama.
According to the George County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were investigating a possible stolen vehicle May 24 in the Agricola area of George County when they saw the vehicle being driven by Charles Mott. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for traffic violations, but the vehicle fled into Alabama.
A few hours later, Mobile County deputies saw the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, which led to another pursuit. Authorities said the pursuit continued until the vehicle came back into Greene County, Mississippi, where it ended. The vehicle was not recovered at that time.
On May 26, the George County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen travel trailer from the Rocky Creek area. Investigators learned the trailer was at Mott’s property in Agricola. Investigators went to the property and confirmed through the VIN that it was the stolen trailer from Rocky Creek.
While investigators were recovering the stolen camper trailer, other George County deputies saw the previously stolen truck, which had been painted a different color, towing a large flatbed trailer in the Howell area of George County. Authorities said Mott was driving the vehicle, and Stephanie Valentine was also inside.
Deputies attempted another traffic stop, but the suspects again fled into Mobile County, Alabama. Mobile County authorities later saw the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, which led to another pursuit. Mobile County deputies were ultimately able to stop the vehicle and arrest Mott and Valentine without further incident.
Both are being held at the Mobile County Metro Jail.
Mott is facing charges in Mobile County, Alabama, including first-degree robbery, first-degree receiving stolen property, felony attempt to elude, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, three counts of second-degree assault and fugitive from justice in Mississippi.
Valentine is facing charges in Mobile County, including first-degree robbery, second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree elder abuse and fugitive from justice in Mississippi.
On May 27, the George County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen flatbed trailer from the Shipman area. Deputies identified the trailer as the same one being towed by Mott during the May 26 pursuit.
On May 28, the George County Criminal Investigation Division received information about the trailer’s location in the Semmes, Alabama, area. The trailer has since been recovered.
The George County Sheriff’s Office has placed holds on Mott for motor vehicle theft, grand larceny of a camper trailer, grand larceny of a flatbed trailer and felony fleeing.
Valentine has holds for grand larceny of a camper trailer and grand larceny of a flatbed trailer.
“These individuals demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of others by repeatedly fleeing from law enforcement,” Sheriff Mitchell Mixon said. “Let this serve as a reminder that the George County Sheriff’s Office will continue pressing forward to hold accountable those who commit crimes in our community, regardless of where they attempt to flee.”
Mixon commended George County deputies, investigators and dispatchers, along with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, for helping apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen property.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
