KEY WEST, Fla. — A Madison, Mississippi, woman died after being found unresponsive while snorkeling near Key West.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in the Florida Keys, Lecia Elizabeth Spriggs, 63, was snorkeling near Mule Key with a commercial company around 1:30 p.m. May 26 when she was found unresponsive in the water.
CPR began immediately, and the U.S. Coast Guard brought Spriggs ashore.
She was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said foul play does not appear to be a factor.
Autopsy results are pending.
