JACKSON – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is preparing for the summer travel season by increasing enforcement during the Memorial Day holiday travel period.
The enforcement period will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, and end at midnight Monday, May 25.
MHP said the Memorial Day holiday travel period coincides with the national “Click It or Ticket” safety campaign. Troopers will place emphasis on Mississippi’s occupant restraint laws, along with enforcement of speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving laws.
Safety checkpoints will also be used throughout the weekend in an effort to reduce crashes.
“As we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country this Memorial Day, let’s also do our part to protect the lives around us,” Commissioner Sean Tindell said. “If you’re traveling this weekend, buckle up, slow down, and never drive impaired. One safe decision can save a life.”
During the 2025 Memorial Day holiday travel period, MHP investigated 137 crashes with six fatalities on state and federal highway systems. Troopers also made 73 DUI arrests and issued 592 citations for occupant restraint violations.
