ADAMS COUNTY – The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of retired K-9 Barry, the agency announced.
Barry was the first dual-purpose K-9 purchased under the current administration at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, according to the department. He served alongside his handler, Sgt. Thomas McGinty.
During his years of service, Barry assisted in numerous operations, including the recovery of missing persons, the apprehension of fugitives and the seizure of illegal narcotics.
The sheriff’s office said Barry was more than a police dog, describing him as a trusted partner, protector and valued member of the ACSO family.
After Barry’s retirement, McGinty continued to care for him.
“Today, we mourn not just the loss of a K-9, but the loss of a faithful partner and member of our law enforcement family,” the agency said.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office thanked Barry for his years of dedicated service to Adams County and asked the community to keep McGinty and everyone who loved Barry in their thoughts and prayers.
