GEORGE COUNTY – A state inmate died Sunday morning after being found unresponsive at the George County Regional Correctional Facility.
According to the George County Sheriff’s Office, correctional facility staff reported the inmate was found unresponsive at approximately 7:55 a.m. Life-saving measures began in less than one minute, and responding personnel immediately administered CPR.
Officials said a pulse was regained before emergency medical services arrived.
The inmate, identified as 69-year-old Robert O. Pugh, was taken by ambulance to George County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 8:03 a.m.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Officials said there were no immediate findings to indicate anything other than natural causes at this time.
Sheriff Mitchell Mixon and the George County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Pugh’s family and loved ones.
