TISHOMINGO COUNTY – A Paden man was arrested on drug charges after deputies said he stopped suddenly near a safety checkpoint and later hit a patrol vehicle.
The Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Department said deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint around 8:30 p.m. May 8 on County Road 169 near County Road 166.
Deputies said they saw a Honda Accord traveling south on County Road 169 when the driver slammed on the brakes and swerved partially off the roadway before stopping about 40 yards from deputies. Another southbound vehicle also slammed on its brakes behind the Accord, nearly hitting it, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies told the driver to pull off the roadway. While doing so, the driver struck a stationary patrol vehicle that had its blue lights activated, authorities said.
The driver was identified as Jacob Earl Hill of Paden.
Deputies said they later recovered a plastic bag that had been thrown into a ditch. Inside the bag, deputies found about 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine and about 4 grams of suspected cocaine.
Deputies also reported finding one dosage unit of oxycodone inside the Accord.
Hill was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, 10 to 30 grams; possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, cocaine, 2 to 10 grams; possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, less than two dosage units; and several misdemeanor traffic violations.
Judge Seth Adams set Hill’s bond at $40,000.
