CALHOUN CITY — Former Calhoun City alderman Tony Herrod was sentenced to two years in Chickasaw County court on Monday in connection with a 2024 aggravated assault.
Herrod had been initially charged with aggravated assault and strong-armed robbery after authorities said he and another man chased down and assaulted a victim at the elementary school in Calhoun City.
According to Sheriff Greg Pollan, Calhoun City Police Department requested the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office investigate the reported attack.
Investigators said the assault happened on a Sunday night in 2024 at the elementary school. The victim told deputies that two or more men chased him down, assaulted him and caused serious bodily injury.
The victim also reported that several items were taken from his pockets during the attack.
Authorities said investigators obtained video footage of the incident and later secured warrants for the suspects.
Herrod’s arrest marked his second arrest within a year at the time. In a separate case, the Tupelo Police Department arrested Herrod after he was accused of taking two wallets from Wall’s Bargain Center on South Gloster Street and assaulting the store’s manager.
