JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced temporary boat access restrictions at two state parks during Fourth of July holiday events connected to America 250 celebrations.

At Paul B. Johnson State Park, boat access to the lake will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 3 while water-based activities and holiday events take place.

At Percy Quin State Park, boat access will be limited throughout the day July 3 and July 4 because of scheduled Independence Day celebrations and activities.

Officials said only overnight guests at Percy Quin State Park will be allowed lake access during the restrictions, and those visitors must coordinate with park staff for designated launch and retrieval times.

The temporary restrictions apply only to boat access. Visitors will still be permitted to fish from the banks of the lakes during closure periods, according to MDWFP.

The agency said the adjustments are intended to help ensure public safety during the holiday weekend festivities.
