JACKSON – The G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center is urging veterans to avoid travel in areas impacted by severe tornadoes.
The medical center said several communities in the area were affected, including locations near some of its Community-Based Outpatient Clinic sites.
Emergency management officials are urging people to stay off the roads, especially in Lincoln and Franklin counties, so search and rescue teams can operate safely.
VA officials said veterans with scheduled appointments at CBOCs in affected counties should not travel until conditions are safe. The VA said it will work with patients to reschedule appointments or transition them to telehealth visits.
Anyone in immediate danger or in need of emergency medical assistance should call 911.
Veterans in crisis can contact the Veterans Crisis Line 24/7 by calling 988 and pressing 1, texting 838255 or chatting online at VeteransCrisisLine.net.
Veterans who need to cancel, reschedule or request a virtual visit can contact the Clinical Contact Center at 1-800-949-1009 or 601-362-4471. They can also contact the VISN 16 Clinical Contact Center at 1-833-363-1063.
The VA also encouraged veterans to use the VA Health Chat app to connect with VA staff from home.
