Seventeen people were injured after severe storms moved through Mississippi overnight, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

No fatalities have been reported.
MEMA said it has received preliminary damage reports from five counties: Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln and Wilkinson. Hundreds of homes were damaged, and numerous roads were closed because of debris.
As of the latest update, about 15,640 customers were without power. Utility crews were working to restore service.

The Lamar County Safe Room is located at 99 Central Industrial Row in Purvis.
The Lincoln County Safe Room is located at 1154 Belt Line Drive in Brookhaven.
MEMA said it is continuing to coordinate response efforts. Agency staff are on the ground in counties to assist with command and response activities at the request of local emergency managers. Multiple volunteer strike teams are also assisting in Lincoln and Franklin counties.
Residents whose homes were damaged are encouraged to file an insurance claim, take photos of the damage and report the damage to MEMA.
