JACKSON — A 37-year-old man was found shot to death behind his Jackson home Thursday afternoon, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Police said Precinct One officers responded around 12:10 p.m. to the 2000 block of Gaites Lane after a driver reported seeing a man lying in the backyard of a residence.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a Black male lying on his back with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said. Investigators later identified the victim as Billy Joe Thedford III. His next of kin has been notified.
According to police, the residence behind which the victim was discovered was his home.
The department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit, Mobile Crime Unit and the Hinds County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
People in the area told investigators they heard gunshots around 1:29 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Authorities said no suspects have been identified and a motive has not been determined.
