Man denied bond after two wounded in Jackson shooting, police say

Synterrius Williams

JACKSON — A 23-year-old man has been charged after two people were wounded in a shooting Tuesday night at an apartment complex on Shaw Road, according to the Jackson Police Department.

Police said officers responded around 9:22 p.m. to the 5000 block of Shaw Road in reference to an aggravated assault.

When officers arrived, they found a red Dodge Challenger that had been struck by gunfire. Investigators said the vehicle was occupied by a 24-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, both of whom suffered gunshot wounds while inside the car.

According to police, the victims told officers they were entering the complex gate when a man later identified as Synterrius Williams fired into the passenger side of the vehicle. Authorities said neither victim knew Williams.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Police later apprehended Williams at Building 2 of the complex. Detectives with the department’s Robbery/Homicide Division, hostage negotiators and Mobile Crime personnel assisted at the scene.

Williams was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and two counts of aggravated assault. Police said he appeared in municipal court Wednesday and was denied bond.
