JACKSON – Police are searching for a 35-year-old man after a reported assault and kidnapping Monday morning involving a woman believed to be in danger.
Authorities said the incident happened around 8 a.m. when a witness reported that his daughter had been kidnapped from a home.
Police identified the suspect as Timmie Davis Jr., a white male with brown hair. Investigators said Davis allegedly arrived at the residence, backed into the home which pushed in an HVAC unit and pulled the victim from her bed. Timmie Davis was the victim’s ex-boyfriend.
JPD Police Chief Brackney said Davis assaulted the woman before forcing her into a white Ford Escape with Lamar County tags. Police said they do not have an exact license plate number.
The woman’s father tried to intervene, but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Amber Cole Mason. She is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with short brownish-red hair. She was last seen wearing a maroon sweater, blue jean shorts and no shoes.
Police said they believe Mason is in danger. Investigators said a similar incident happened about three weeks ago, when Davis allegedly abducted her from her home and held her for about two weeks while repeatedly beating and assaulting her. This incident was not reported to police, according to Chief Brackney.
Authorities said Mason was allegedly held in Sumrall during that earlier incident.
Investigators went to an address on Broom Street and contacted a resident there identified as the suspect’s mother, but police said little information was provided. The sheriff’s department later cleared the Broom Street address.
Police said the FBI and the sheriff’s department have been notified and are involved in the search.
Authorities are also asking anyone who sold or transferred a white Ford Escape to Timothy Davis Jr. in the Sumrall area to contact investigators immediately.
Police said Davis has a criminal history that includes burglary, felony mischief, auto theft, trespassing, grand larceny and other charges.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1800.
