JACKSON – Mississippi landowners across the state can now apply for private land alligator tags for the 2026 season, according to the state’s private lands and permits information.

Officials said the private lands alligator tag program is available statewide beginning in 2026.

Applications for private lands alligator permits will be accepted from May 1 through July 1, and all applications must be submitted online, according to the state.

There is no fee to apply.

Officials said anyone may submit an application for a property in open counties as long as the landowner signs the application. Only one application may be submitted for each property.

The 2026 alligator season opens on the last Friday in August, which falls on Aug. 28 this year.

According to the state, the private lands season will run from noon Aug. 28 until 6 a.m. Sept. 21.
