WIGGINS – The Walmart Supercenter in Wiggins was evacuated early Monday after a ruptured gas line was reported outside the store, according to the Wiggins Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at about 3 a.m. to the store after reports of a gas line rupture.

When crews arrived, they confirmed the damaged line was outside the building and had been accidentally struck, the fire department said.

As a precaution, the store was evacuated.

The fire department said the Walmart Supercenter will remain closed until the gas line is repaired and the area is declared safe by the local gas company.

Wiggins Fire Department units remained on scene and on standby while repairs were underway.

Officials said Walmart will resume normal operations once the repairs are completed and the scene is cleared.
