MARION COUNTY – A Marion County man has been arrested in connection with a house fire that seriously injured two people and now faces arson and attempted murder charges, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies and fire crews responded April 19 to a reported structure fire at 172 Fleet Holmes Road. Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and units from the Foxworth and Southwest fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
When first responders arrived, they found two occupants suffering from smoke inhalation and burn injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. AAA Ambulance Service took both victims to a local hospital. One of the victims was later airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
Following an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators determined that Bryan Aubrey Turnage, the son of the victims, had allegedly made prior threats to burn the home while his parents were inside.
Authorities said Turnage was not at the scene when emergency personnel arrived.
On April 23, deputies located Turnage at a residence on John Thornhill Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said he tried to run but was captured after a brief foot chase and taken into custody without further incident.
Turnage was booked into the Marion County Jail and charged with one count of arson and two counts of attempted murder, authorities said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
