NATCHEZ – A Natchez mother is being held on an attempted murder charge after threats against her 4-month-old infant were shared with the child’s father and posted on social media, according to Natchez Police Chief Lee Best.

Best said 27-year-old April Alexander was taken into custody Monday. Additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

According to Best, the Natchez Police Department received a call at about 6:50 a.m. Monday from the child’s father, who was in California. The father told authorities Alexander had been sending him concerning material involving the infant.

Best said the child is safe and is currently with investigators and Child Protective Services.

The police chief said social media posts that were later deleted included a screenshot of a text message conversation with an image showing the infant on the ground, partially underneath a vehicle, with a foot on the child’s stomach.

Best said the posts also included a video showing the woman yelling at the infant, “Your daddy don’t want you,” while holding the child’s face as the baby cried.

According to Best, investigators moved quickly and found the infant with a family member. Authorities later located Alexander and took her into custody.

The case remains under investigation.
