Authorities said Harvey Lee Roberts was found near 430 Currie Road after nearby residents reported hearing someone calling for help from the woods across the street from their home. The residents then called 911.

Deputies, investigators and command staff with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene along with EMServ Ambulance Service and staff from the Jones County Emergency Operations Center.

The sheriff’s department said Patrol Sgt. Tammy Myers, Deputy Clay Sullivan, Deputy Zach Strickland and Deputy Zach Archer made their way through thick brush and woods to reach Roberts.

During the rescue, Sheriff Joe Berlin, Investigator Brock Avera, Investigator Troy Lewis and EMServ paramedic Sarah Blancett also entered the wooded area to assist, authorities said.

Deputies had to clear brush and cut through a wire fence to get Roberts to a waiting stretcher, according to the sheriff’s department.

Roberts was taken by EMServ Ambulance Service to South Central Regional Medical Center for treatment.

“Many prayers were answered this morning with the discovery and rescue of Harvey Lee Roberts,” Investigator Brock Avera said in a statement. “From residents hearing his calling out for help to rescue efforts by deputies to medical interventions by EMServ medics and now medical treatment at South Central Regional Medical Center, it’s just a miracle that he was found alive.”
