JONES COUNTY – A joint narcotics investigation by the Laurel Police Department and the Jones County Sheriff’s Department led to multiple arrests Wednesday and the seizure of illegal drugs, a firearm and cash.

According to Laurel police, the department’s Narcotic Division and Jones County sheriff’s narcotics investigators carried out the investigation April 15.
As part of the operation, officers executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of North 3rd Avenue in Laurel. Investigators said they found about 2 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of marijuana, a firearm and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Jonas Windham was arrested and charged with ex-convict in possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, police said.
In a related operation, Laurel police conducted a traffic stop near U.S. Highway 84 West and 16th Avenue based on information gathered through the joint investigation, authorities said. During the stop, officers found about 56 grams of methamphetamine, according to police.
Patrick Anderson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Police said the arrests and seizures are part of an ongoing collaborative investigation that began with warrants and arrests earlier this week by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department in Ellisville.
“The success of this operation stemmed from our departments working together,” Sgt. Michelle Howell of the Laurel Police Department said. “We look forward to continued collaboration on future investigations. Both departments are dedicated to ridding the community of illegal narcotics.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may follow.
