Man Shot at Monroe County Field Party; Deputies Make Arrests for Interference

MONROE COUNTY — A 44-year-old man was shot Saturday night during a large gathering in Monroe County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Monroe County 911 dispatch received a call around 10 p.m. reporting weapons being pulled and shots fired at a field party on Jakobi Lane near Shepherd Drive and Highway 45 Alternate. While deputies were en route, a caller reported that someone had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they were initially unable to enter the area due to heavy traffic leaving the scene. Once they gained access, they found the victim alive with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Authorities said deputies had to arrest multiple individuals at the scene for interfering with their efforts to render aid to the victim.

Emergency responders with Medstat transported the victim to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. His condition has not been released.

Investigators said no one at the scene was willing to provide information about who fired the shots or what led to the violence.

Sheriff Kevin Crook is asking anyone with information to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 662-369-2468. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by contacting Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
