BROOKHAVEN – A young dog at the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League has been waiting nearly a year for a home, and shelter volunteers say time in the shelter is beginning to take a toll.

Puttie Belle, a perfect 1 1/2-year-old dog weighing 44 pounds, has been at BARL for 11 months and is still looking for a family.

According to the shelter, Puttie Belle gets time in the play yard every day, but staff say what she really needs is a permanent home.

Shelter supporters describe her as energetic, happy and friendly. They say she has done well with a special needs child in a previous home and is also good with other children.

Puttie Belle is known for standing up to greet people, but supporters say she is polite and does not put her feet on them.

According to BARL, she is fine around cows and plays well with some dogs, though she can be selective with others. She is not considered a good fit for homes with chickens, and shelter staff believe she is probably not suited for homes with cats.

Puttie Belle is the sweetest girl and she so needs to get out of the shelter and into a loving home! Go visit her this week and see if she is a good fit for your family!

Those interested in meeting Puttie Belle can visit BARL from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday or call or text 601-757-3211 to schedule an appointment at other times.
