CLAIBORNE COUNTY – Two people were arrested after a reported drive-by shooting late at night on Elmwood Street in the Sugar Hill area, according to the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies responded around 11:19 p.m. to a report of shots fired. A caller reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a black vehicle with chrome wheels leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Deputies and the sheriff responded immediately and, while canvassing the area, spotted a black vehicle matching the description traveling from Highway 547. A traffic stop was initiated, and the occupants were detained without incident, the sheriff’s office said.
During the stop, the driver told deputies a firearm was on the back seat of the vehicle and gave consent to search it, according to investigators. Deputies said they recovered a firearm and other evidence from the vehicle.

Further investigation found the shell casings and bullets recovered from the vehicle were consistent with evidence found at the original scene, authorities said. Deputies also collected four .223 shell casings from the scene.
Investigators said both suspects admitted involvement in the shooting, which stemmed from an ongoing dispute with a person living at 1013 Elmwood St.
The sheriff’s office identified those arrested as Javeion Perkins, born April 18, 2006, of Vicksburg, and Arkeem Banks, born Nov. 4, 2007, also of Vicksburg.
Both made initial appearances before Judge Flowers, who set bond at $50,000 each.
Sheriff Edward L. Goods Sr. thanked the deputies for their quick response and arrest of the suspects.
