JACKSON — Jackson State University will launch a new speaker series Tuesday aimed at connecting students with industry leaders, beginning with a conversation featuring a top Hollywood marketing executive.
The inaugural session of “THEE Industry Access Series: From JXN to the Industry” will feature Briana McElroy, executive vice president and head of worldwide digital marketing at Lionsgate. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon in the Dollye M.E. Robinson Liberal Arts Building on campus.
University officials said the series is designed to give students and the Jackson community direct access to professionals across a range of fields, offering mentorship, career insight and networking opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world experience.
Tuesday’s discussion will highlight McElroy’s career path from Jackson to a senior leadership role in the film industry, as well as her work on major movie marketing campaigns. Organizers said the conversation will also explore the impact of historically Black colleges and universities and community ties on career development.
The session will be moderated by Callie Callicut, a Jackson State senior majoring in journalism and media studies and a member of the university’s women’s track and field team.
Jackson State is hosting the event as part of its Research Engagement Week. Officials said students attending will gain insight into how large-scale film campaigns are developed and what it takes to break into the entertainment industry.
McElroy currently leads digital marketing strategy for major film releases, including projects that have incorporated HBCU culture, such as marching band performances.
The event is open to students, faculty and the community, and light refreshments will be provided, according to the university.
