RANKIN COUNTY – Rankin County officials have extended the county’s burn ban through May 1, or until weather conditions improve.

Officials said contractors who follow Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality guidelines are still allowed to burn, but all other restrictions remain in place.

County leaders said recent rainfall brought some relief, but it was not enough to ease the ongoing moisture deficit.

Residents are being asked to continue avoiding all non-approved burning activities as officials work to reduce fire risk and protect the community.
