LEE COUNTY – A dog with severe neck injuries is recovering after being found wandering along a roadside in Plantersville, according to North Mississippi Animal Care and Control Association LLC.

The organization said one of its officers was patrolling in Lee County when the dog was spotted walking along the side of the road in the Town of Plantersville.

Officials said the dog was not in a yard and was roaming freely. The animal had no collar, identification tags or microchip, making it impossible to immediately identify an owner.

Because Plantersville has a leash ordinance, the officer stopped and called the dog over, authorities said.

When the officer examined the dog, the injuries appeared severe. According to the organization, the dog had significant wounds around her neck, and it appeared she had been tied with a cable or rope that became embedded, causing deep lacerations and extreme pain.

Despite her condition, the dog was described as gentle and came willingly to the officer.

She was transported to the shelter, where she is now receiving medical treatment, medication and supportive care, officials said.

North Mississippi Animal Care and Control Association said the case is a reminder of the dangers of improperly restraining dogs and warned that tying an animal out incorrectly can lead to serious injury or death.
