According to the sheriff’s office, MacArthur Mackey Jr., 42, is wanted for questioning by New Orleans police. He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 139 pounds.
Authorities said Mackey was last seen April 2, 2026, wearing a black hoodie, red undershirt and dark-colored pants.
The sheriff’s office said Mackey was associated with a Lincoln MKX bearing Louisiana license plate 948 HIT. However, authorities said it could not be confirmed whether the vehicle remains in the area because Mackey has reportedly been traveling on foot.
Law enforcement also addressed rumors circulating in the community, saying Mackey is not an escaped jail inmate and that there is no active shooter at the school or at Brad’s One Stop.
Officials said the school was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution by the superintendent’s office.
Anyone who sees Mackey or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office at 601-587-2961.
