JACKSON — Mayor John Horhn is urging eligible homeowners to apply for a state-administered recovery program before a fast-approaching deadline to receive assistance for storm-damaged homes.
The Mississippi Homeowner Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Program, administered by the Mississippi Development Authority, provides federally funded aid to low- and moderate-income homeowners whose homes were damaged or destroyed during the April 8-11, 2024, tornadoes and straight-line winds.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April 5, 2026.
“Many Jackson families are still working to recover from these devastating storms, and this program can provide critical help to rebuild what was lost,” Horhn said in a statement. “I encourage every eligible homeowner to apply before the deadline and take advantage of this opportunity for support.”
According to the Mississippi Housing Recovery program, applicants must have unrepaired storm damage, own and occupy the home as their primary residence and meet income requirements at or below 80% of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s area median income. Eligible properties include those located in Hinds County.
Homeowners can apply online, by phone or in person through the Mississippi Housing Recovery website. Applicants should be prepared to provide documentation including proof of identity, income, homeownership, residency, insurance coverage and any disaster assistance previously received.
For Jackson-area residents seeking in-person help, an intake center is available at the Edwards Community Center in Edwards. There is no cost to apply or participate in the program.
