The Vicksburg Police Department said officers were first dispatched at 2:46 a.m. to the area of Clay Street and Old Highway 27 for a three-vehicle crash.
Police said one of the vehicles caught fire and injuries were reported, though the extent of those injuries was not immediately known.
While officers were responding to that scene, shots were fired around 3 a.m. in the area of Circle K, according to police.
Officers later found multiple shell casings at the scene. No injuries had been reported in connection with the shooting, police said.
Preliminary information indicates the crash and the shooting do not appear to be related, though both remain under active investigation.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Vicksburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
