PEARL – The Mississippi Correctional Institute for Women hosted a resource fair Thursday for inmates who are within three months of release, offering support and connections aimed at helping them transition back into society.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections said the event was held March 26 and was organized by Major Williestine Guise.

Officials said the fair featured booths from several organizations and agencies that provided information, encouragement and re-entry resources for the women preparing for release.

Participants included representatives from the Mississippi Department of Corrections Re-Entry Team, Hope Psychiatric Consultants of Pearl, VitalCore Health Strategies and Surge Staffing Company.

Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with the dean of Hinds Community College and the director of Crossroads Transitional Living Facility, according to MDOC. Representatives from Brown Bottling Group and Wayne-Sanderson Farms also took part.

Officials said booths offered pamphlets, brochures and other networking materials. Afterward, MDOC Deputy Commissioner Kelley Christopher delivered remarks intended to encourage and motivate the women.

The department said attendees also were provided a special meal and time to talk with one another about their future plans.

MDOC thanked Superintendent Katrina Reid for supporting the event and said it hopes to include even more vendors at future resource fairs.
