CARROLL COUNTY – A wildfire in Carroll County has burned approximately 1,800 acres near Coila, according to WTVA. The blaze began Wednesday night, Carroll County Fire Coordinator Jake Hurst told the station.

Firefighters have been working to contain the fire near County Road 145, Hurst said. He told WTVA that crews are monitoring about 30 nearby homes, but the structures were not considered to be in immediate danger.

The National Weather Service has warned of dangerous fire weather conditions in Mississippi, saying dry air, gusty winds and dry fuels could create explosive fire growth potential and allow wildfires to spread rapidly. The agency advised that open burning should not be attempted.
