NATCHEZ — A fundraiser has been launched to help cover funeral expenses for a Natchez man who was killed Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle along U.S. Highway 61.

Devon Harper, 29, died after being hit around 11 p.m. near a Walmart, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Authorities said a 2019 Dodge Charger, driven by 24-year-old Elijah Marsaw of Vidalia, Louisiana, was traveling southbound when it collided with Harper, who was also walking south. Harper was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the days following his death, Harper’s brother, Frank Harper, created a GoFundMe campaign seeking assistance with cremation and funeral costs.

“I’m raising money today to help get my brother cremated and take care of funeral services,” Frank Harper wrote. “My brother was an awesome brother, a great friend, and loved life more than anybody I know.”

He said the family is asking for help as they make arrangements after the sudden loss.

“He was unfortunately struck by a vehicle … and passed on, and I can really use the help to get him cremated,” he wrote. “I thank you for taking the time to read this.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
