KEMPER COUNTY – A Kemper County man was arrested Thursday after a joint investigation by the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI into the alleged download of child pornography from the dark web.
According to the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office, investigators and federal agents spent several weeks investigating an individual identified through intelligence sources as allegedly downloading large amounts of child pornographic material.
Officials said the investigation found the suspect had accumulated several hundred gigabytes of the material.
At about 6 a.m. on March 19, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team executed a search warrant and arrest warrant at a residence at 71 Parsonage Road in the Preston community.
Authorities said Timothy Walker was taken into custody without incident and charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography.
Walker’s bond was set at $250,000 per count, for a total of $5 million, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s officials said the case remains part of ongoing efforts to investigate and prosecute crimes involving the exploitation of children.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
