PEARL RIVER COUNTY – The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department has introduced a new four-legged member of its team, a bloodhound trained to help locate missing persons and fugitives.
Amos, a 3-year-old bloodhound, has been trained in tracking and finding missing people as well as fugitive recovery, according to the sheriff’s department.
Officials said Capt. Shane Edgar traveled to Missouri to meet Amos and complete four days of training with him before bringing the dog back to Pearl River County. Since then, Amos has continued training in the county’s climate and terrain to prepare for local conditions, including heat, humidity and varied environments.

The sheriff’s department said Amos has already completed multiple successful tracks in a variety of locations and weather conditions.
Authorities said they are confident in Amos’ ability to work alongside deputies, the department’s Special Operations Team and Pearl River County JSAR.
Officials said Amos is expected to strengthen the department’s search and recovery efforts and improve its ability to support nearby and local agencies.
