QUITMAN — Clarkco State Park in Quitman will reopen March 19 following renovations that include updated RV campsites, newly renovated cabins and improvements to other park facilities, officials with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced.
The park will celebrate its grand reopening with a public event beginning at 8 a.m. March 19 with a social gathering at Pavilion Two, followed by a special program. Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the park’s newly renovated cabins and campground after the program.
Clarkco State Park now includes 43 updated campsites designed for RV camping, each equipped with full hookups including water, electricity and sewer, along with a picnic table and grill, according to MDWFP.
Officials say the upgrades are intended to make the park a more comfortable destination for visitors looking to enjoy outdoor recreation in Mississippi.
The park also features six newly renovated cabins, each outfitted with updated amenities including stainless steel kitchen appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffee station. The cabins also include renovated dining areas with solid-surface countertops, new living room furniture with a flatscreen satellite television, updated bedroom furniture and bathrooms with walk-in fiberglass showers.
Each cabin also features new outdoor spaces including a front porch with a picnic table, fire pit and grill, as well as a screened-in back porch with outdoor seating.
Additional renovations at the park include updates to the lodge and bathhouse, according to the department.
Reservations for cabins and campsites are now open and can be made online through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks reservation system.
Visitors to Clarkco State Park can also take part in a variety of recreational activities including fishing, boating and hiking, along with access to a day-use area featuring a playground, nature trail, disc golf course and tennis courts.
Park entry costs $2 per person, and children age 5 and younger are admitted free.
