JACKSON – The Jackson Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a man believed to be involved in a homicide that occurred last year at a local gas station.
According to police, the man in a surveillance photo is a suspect in the shooting death of 22-year-old Melvin Bass.

The incident occurred Oct. 19, 2025, at the Valero gas station on Cooper Road, where Bass was shot and killed.
Investigators are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the case to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1278.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 601-355-TIPS (8477). Officials said tipsters could receive a reward of up to $2,500 if the information leads to an arrest.
Crime Stoppers does not require personal information from those submitting tips, only details related to the crime.
