JACKSON COUNTY — Two men initially charged with aggravated assault in a late February shooting in Gulf Park Estates are now facing upgraded charges of attempted murder, authorities said.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Christopher Paul Landry, 46, and Glen Guy Barton, 32, were formally charged with attempted murder following developments in the investigation of a Feb. 26 shooting near North 19th Street and Pickering Forrest Drive.
Sheriff John Ledbetter said deputies responded around 9:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting and found 47-year-old Nathan Lee suffering from two gunshot wounds after an altercation with another party. Lee was transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Barton was initially arrested without incident and charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Landry was later located and arrested on Derry Lane in Ocean Springs after the sheriff’s department received a Crime Stoppers tip regarding his whereabouts. He was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As the investigation progressed, authorities upgraded the charges against both men to attempted murder. Barton also faces additional charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence. Officials said Barton was out on bond for a previous felony charge at the time of his arrest.
On March 4, Barton and Landry made their initial appearances before Mark Watts in Jackson County Court. Both men are being held at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Adult Detention Center.
The case remains under active investigation, and additional charges or arrests may be forthcoming.
