HINDS COUNTY — A burn ban is now in effect for several central Mississippi counties, as well as one in the City of Clinton, according to officials.

Current burn bans as of March 2, 2026.

Under the ban, no burn permits will be issued, and all outdoor fires are strictly prohibited.

The restriction includes the burning of yard debris, brush piles and open burning of any kind.

Officials are also urging residents not to throw cigarettes out of car windows or discard any materials that could ignite dry grass or brush.

Government leaders said dry conditions can cause fires to spread quickly and emphasized that public cooperation is critical to protecting homes, property and first responders.

The burn ban will remain in effect until April 1 unless otherwise updated by city officials.
